We went on the hunt for an antique bed, but the poor guy had no idea what he was getting himself into. After trekking through half a dozen shops, I rewarded him with a milkshake.
Sadly, the milkshake was the only purchase we made. We found only three bed options.
This brass bed was missing pieces and needed way too much work.
This spindle bed was in decent shape, but it didn't thrill me.
I really like the lines of this bed. It was only $60, but one of the rails was missing the hooks that attach it to the headboard. I'm not sure if that's an easy fix or not. Anyone have any experience with this?
I did find this guy that I thought would look cool hanging over the bed...
but my son thought it was too creepy.
So, the hunt continues, but I have a feeling I'll be on my own from here on out.
Funny...you KNOW when a boy wants to go shopping, there is an ulterior motive!
ReplyDeleteGood luck in your search, I liked the bed too...and 60.00 a steal!
Love that brass one but I agree that it would be a lot of work. I dont think beds are too hard to fix. I railing wouldn't be too bad but I have no idea. I would tell you that, you'll buy it and then you'll spend the next 5 months trying to fix it... so don't listen to me.
ReplyDeleteIt was nice that he went along. In year from now, he will never remember that he didn't keep going out and shopping, he will only remember that he helped participate in the adventure...and that is all that really matters.:)
ReplyDeleteAs far as the rail thing, you were smart to pass it up. It's not a slam dunk repair. I think the new bed frame is probably waiting somewhere else for you to find!
Good luck- Those railing pieces are not easy fixes. Those metal things do not reattach easily and then they don't hold long term. Too bad the brass bed was in such sad shape- xo Diana
ReplyDeleteI like the direction you're going in for his room. I'm sure you'll find just the right bed before long. It's out there.....waiting for you to find it! Ha!
ReplyDeleteI am a new follower and love what you have planned for your son's room.
ReplyDeleteIf you like the bed that's missing the railing hardware...get it! I have research bed rail hardware for a bed that will need repairing soon. You can get surface mounted keyhole bed rail brackets and attach them to the headboard & footboard and if needed make new rails. In my case it won't matter if the woods don't match because a bed skirt will cover it. You could even paint the headboard and then the new rails.
Try Rockler Woodworking and Hardware website.
Search for surface mounted keyhole bed rail hardware.
Good luck! Love your blog,
