I've been helping my friends, Anne and Mike, with design ideas for their new home. The house has great bones, but man, was the decor U-G-L-Y (it ain't got no alibi). Just check out the "before" shots of the kitchen.

Some people may have looked at this house and been overwhelmed by the amount of work that had to be done. Not Anne and Mike. All that work was precisely why they chose the house. They thrive on house projects!
What impresses me the most is that they kept the original cabinetry. Mike took apart the cabinets, measured, and reconfigured them. He replaced the cabinet doors with ones he found at The Door Store. The Door Store sells factory seconds for $10 - $15 per door.
There is still a bit of work to be done. I'll show you the "final" reveal when the backsplash and new lighting is installed.
Have a great day!
No way, that is the same kitchen? I had to do a double take. I love that paint color. Absolutely beautiful job on this!
ReplyDeleteAMAZING! Carolyn what a gorgeous kitchen redo...so light and bright and it looks so much larger now. Nice job!
ReplyDeleteWow, Anne and I have the same ugliness factor in our kitchens. She has a great friend in you helping with the design - it's gorgeous. Mine will have to wait until the autumn as I won't give up precious outside time.
ReplyDeleteIt looks amazing! The power of paint and granite! Awesome job :)
ReplyDeleteGorgeous transformation...I love it that you decided to remove the 2nd island...a good decision!...Your kitchen is magnificent!
ReplyDeleteThey did a wonderful job on that kitchen! Everything looks lighter and more airy. Love what they did with the cabinets, too! I love it all!

A million times better, I couldn't look away from the hideous tile, so happy with the final result!

I'm truly impressed. I just love kitchen makeovers. It's just gorgeous. I bet that they spend a lot of time in there now. I know I would. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing transformation! Love the finishes they chose for their remodel.
ReplyDeleteWOAH!!!! I was popping over to say THANK YOU for the super sweet note you left me about my bathtub facelift and I am bombarded with all kinds of eye candy!!! SERIOUSLY! OH and I NEED to know where this 'door store' is.. like right now. :) .... {seriously though}
ReplyDeleteWow, what a beautiful kitchen your friends created! So bright, fresh, and crisp. Love all the changes they made.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by, Mary Alice
Carolyn,
ReplyDeleteThe kitchen redo is great. I am interested in finding out how to locate the Door Store that you mentioned in this post. It is exactly what I need check out so that I can revamp my tired, outdated oak cabinets. Thanks!
Andrea and Becky... don't know where you are located, but the Door Store is in Shirley, Indiana. You can find them online at thedoorstore.net. Perhaps they can help you find a similar store near you. Good luck!! :)

Amazing job, I love it. I was wondering if they painted the trim in the other rooms white or left it. In the before pixs you can see the trim around slidding door, ect and its the same unpainted oak (sorry don't know technical names, types of wood, I'm new to diy and home decor) as the before cabinets. I ask because I really want to paint cabinets white but worried it won't look good with the rest of the wood in my house (trim, stairs railing that can be seen from kitchen, ect) left unpainted.
ReplyDeleteSorry for the long comment/question, I have wanted to ask someone from the blogs I read, then just found yours and it is my fave kitchen makeover. Count me in as a new blog follower.
