If my blog were a TV show, it would be Lost. Remember how Lost would take you in one direction, get you involved in the lives of certain characters and then go off the air for 6 months or shift focus to completely different events? Eventually, the audience would forget what the heck was even happening with half the characters or situations.
Well, that's kind of how my blog is. I show you a room, give you the background, share my plans for changing it, maybe tweak a few things, keep you on the edge of your seat for the reveal of my fabulous design (work with me on that one, people. I'm making an analogy), and then leave you hanging while I go strip wallpaper in another room. By the time I come back to the original room, you probably can't remember a thing about it.
Do you even remember my living room?
This is how it was looking on the last "episode."
One of the issues I've had with this room is trying to balance the large piano with the smaller scale upholstered pieces. A couple of readers suggested I move the cabinet that was behind the piano. So, I did...
Thank you, brilliant readers! I love the cabinets flanking the entrance to the foyer. And, I decided I loved the Anthro plate I bought last week, and went back for a few more and a couple of teacups and saucers.
And, speaking of love ...
I almost hugged the UPS driver when he delivered my pink velvet ottoman. This was a COM order from Ballard Designs, and I have been waiting so very patiently for it to show up on my doorstep :)
When I moved the cabinet, I decided to turn the piano so the keys were facing into the room. I hesitated to do that for a long time, because the sound quality is better if the piano's soundboard is open to the room. However, none of us is a concert pianist, so what the heck.
I think it looks much better this way.
Still got a long way to go, but I'm pleased with how the room is taking shape. Pillows are being made and my round ottoman is being recovered. I think I'm on ottoman overload! Hoping to have some more updates soon.
In the meantime, I hope that you are like the Lost audience... hanging in there despite the frustration, figuring that soon everything will make sense and there will be resolution.

It is looking great! I like the curios flanking the foyer wall, too. It is always hard working with a grand piano, isn't it? I have ended up facing ours so that it is into the corner, too, in the past.
ReplyDeleteLOVE that pink ottoman! GORGEOUS!
Not Lost anymore- xo Diana
I agree the changes make a nice change, especially the piano turned.

ReplyDeleteOoooh, I love your ottoman! I wouldn't worry about changing the position of the piano if it works better for you. I'm sure it still sounds beautiful when it's played.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful weekend, Carolyn!

Great job! Your room is really coming along! I would love for you to come share at my linky party!

Stunning -- all of it but that ottoman -- that is the icing on the cake!
ReplyDeleteIt's gorgeous! I especially love the ottoman!
ReplyDeleteAre you adverse to a summer-weight area rug (lending some weight) to anchor the seating pieces centered on the sofa/settee? Something that would pick up the ice-cream colors of pink and cream and perhaps add a dash of something else? Of course, I'm very fond of area rugs. I use them even on top of each other on top of carpet!
ReplyDeleteLove your new pink ottoman...It jumped off the page of links and I had to come check it out! It's the perfect pink.
ReplyDeleteWow -- I love this space! It's so open and so filled with light. Really, the vibe is awesome. I do agree that the piano looks better with the keys facing the room. And by the way, I love LOST -- big time "Lostie". I know, so nerdy, but I embrace it :)
ReplyDeleteComing over from, "My Uncommon Slice of Suburbia" Oh, I LOVE LOVE LOVE your room... I don't play piano but I sure would LOVE to come over and listen to whoever plays... Or just come over and sit in your pretty room and STARE forever at your new (EEEEEKKKK!!!! ) PINK Ottoman... :) Just became your newest follower
ReplyDeleteCarolyn I don't know how I missed this post! This room looks beautiful!! LOVE the changes and love that ottoman!
ReplyDeleteThis is my first time here, so I have nothing to compare it to, but your room is gorgeous! I love the bones of the house, the stairs in the entry, and the pink ottoman has me craving one just like that!
ReplyDeleteI'm your newest follower, and I'll follow you all over your house:)
I almost didn't mention (afraid of offending you) moving the other china cabinet for balance.... it looks AWESOME! I love that you repositioned the baby grand, its definitely the little things that make a room. You have such great pieces to work with, it will be fun to see what else you come up with!! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeletePlease tell me what color is on the walls in the living room with the gorgeous pink ottoman? Thanks.
ReplyDeleteHi Carol... the paint color is BM's White Dove :)
ReplyDeleteShoppingrl...I'm so glad you mentioned it!!! That would never offend me... I love to hear suggestions!! I actually only stuck the cabinet back there after we had the floors done. I was hoping it would add some height behind the piano, as the piano always seemed to dwarf the rest of the furnishings. I wasn't thrilled with the way it looked either... I just needed someone to give me a nudge to move it... so THANK YOU!!
ReplyDeleteHope you'll continue to give me feedback! I really appreciate it :) xo
